This study compares two ant species associated with the same plant and fungus species. These ants show different investments in mutualistic relationships and pay different costs for different services. Our results show that local coexistence between the ants should be fleeting, due to differences in their competitiveness.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nThis is a very cool article resulting from a collaboration with <a title=\"J\u00e9r\u00f4me's website\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ecofog.gf\/spip.php?article61\" target=\"_blank\">J\u00e9r\u00f4me Orivel<\/a>, J\u00e9r\u00e9mie Lauth, Olivier Roux, Fr\u00e9d\u00e9ric Petitclerc, Alain Dejean and C\u00e9line Leroy. Its publication rewards more than a decade of research on the <em>Allomerus-Hirtella<\/em> system in French Guiana. We progressed so much in our understanding of this amazing ant-plant-fungus mutualism since <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nature.com\/nature\/journal\/v434\/n7036\/full\/434973a.html\" title=\"The 2005 paper in Nature\" target=\"_blank\">the discovery of the trap\/galleries<\/a>!<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nThis new paper is titled &#8220;<strong>Trade-offs in mutualistic investment in a tripartite symbiosis<\/strong>&#8221; and will certainly be online soon.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The manuscript describing trade-offs and service exchange in the tripartite plant-ant-fungus association that I studied during my PhD is accepted for publication in Proceedings B.
